one in Christ:  in fellowship

. . . and they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to the breaking of bread, and to the fellowship, and to prayer . . . acts 2:42

The Church that was born into the Book of Acts had a laser-like focus on the essentials of the Christian Life:  Word and Worship, Prayer, and Fellowship.  While we’re particularly familiar with the first three, fellowship seems to elude us at times.  In part because it seems hard to define; but I think it’s also because it doesn’t really seem all that spiritual — God’s Word, Holy Communion, the Lord’s Prayer, and fellowship?

Fellowship is the celebration of life together ~ from the softball field to the dining table, from Omega to the backyard bbq, quilting, gaming, swimming, gabbing, ~ it is the celebration of all the joys of life with fellow believers. For while it seems that an evening with the gals, or the guys as the case may be, may be anything but spiritual, that couldn’t be further from the truth. 

"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,  then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Philippians 2:1-2

The people of God, united in the love of Christ, are bound to God and to one another in a most holy gathering through the Holy Spirit.  Whether kneeling at the sacred altar or chomping on a brat through the Holy Spirit, God unites as the communion of saints!  If we are to be One in Christ, then we need share life together. 

                We are committing the month of July to fellowship, and are challenging every member of the congregation to participate in at least one fellowship opportunity, that we all may be One.
